Off Roader Gets Auto Option
Isuzu’s FTS 800 4x4 model is now available with an optional five speed Allison automatic transmission giving Australia’s mining and emergency services workers access to a rugged 4x4 truck that is easier to operate for longer over difficult terrain. The Allison five speed is specially designed for use in medium to heavy duty trucks and will enhance the FTS 800’s ease of use and reduce driver fatigue in demanding conditions. The transmission communicates and integrates with other systems in the truck via CANBUS technology, providing a seamless operation and smooth shift quality. A ‘first-gear hold’ function further enhances the model’s off-road capability and assists when negotiating steep downhill stretches. As with other FTS 800 4x4 models, the automatic variant features a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a central differential lock. The FTS 800 4x4 Auto models have a GVM of 13.9 tonnes and are powered by Isuzu’s EuroV compliant SiTEC Series III 235 engine which produces 176 kW of power at 2400 RPM and 706 Nm of torque between 1450 and 2400 rpm.
