Queensland’s cane crushing season is in full swing and millions of tonnes cut cane are on the move. Much of it is via cane trains running on dedicated narrow gauge rail lines that often duck across roads on level crossings that don’t have flashing lights or warning bells and often, very little in the way of adequate or even clear, signage. The season runs from May to November and there’s more than 4000 kilometres of cane train tracks in the coastal strip spanning from Maryborough to Mossman.
So keep an eye out.
And watch out for some of those bulk cane trucks too….
