ATA releases truck crash fact sheet

218 people were killed in truck crashes in the year ended March 2011, compared to 230 in the year ended March 2010, truck crash figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) show.

The BITRE also examined the 225 deaths from heavy vehicle crashes in the 2010 calendar year. 38 of the deaths in single or multiple vehicle accidents were truck drivers or passengers, with light vehicle drivers or passengers accounting for 162 of the deaths.
